Toilets, toothbrushes, and telephones... Isaac at 14 months

My little guy and I just returned from a wonderful trip to (not so) sunny San Diego. Today he is fourteen (!) months old. It's so cliche but I cannot begin to express the way that Isaac has changed my life and stolen my heart. Being with just him gave me a much needed opportunity to just appreciate this stage.

At fourteen months Isaac:
  • still races towards the bathroom to check out the toilet at every opportunity. Fortunately he no longer reaches into the bowl-- he just looks at it
  • loves his toothbrush-- he screams and stomps his feet if he catches you brushing without him.
  • walks around with the phone pressed to the back of his head. Nat is a little concerned about his poor perception of where his ear actually is.
  • runs instead of walks whenever there is enough room.
  • climbs to greater heights every day.
  • loves his brothers dearly.
  • kisses constantly.
  • excitedly refers to all animals as "dogs" and then reports that all animals say "woo woo".
  • only says "mama" or "mom mom"when he is whining.
  • often says "dada" when he is excited and happy.
  • is incredibly social and just a little bit nosy, approaching strangers and staring at them until they return his smile.
  • is increasingly expressive. My mom has a three way mirror at her house and while we were there he derived great pleasure from practicing his pouty face in the mirror.
  • delights us with his increasing vocabulary.
  • dances whenever he hears music.
  • loves an audience to laugh and encourage his antics.
  • is surprisingly obedient. When I catch him doing something he shouldn't I can usually just tell him to stop and he obeys. I can hope against hope that this keeps up (yea, right).
  • throws a very funny tantrum that involves stomping feet which occasionally results in a loss of balance.
  • has perfected his defensive stance against Noah taking toys from him. He holds the toy under his armpit and runs away to find me and hide between my legs.
  • still giggles at all books, whether or not they are funny.
  • loves his crib!
  • is ALWAYS making sounds of one kind or another. He motors around the house, sings along to music, and gets right up in my face and jabbers away in his nonsensical tones.
  • refers to any item of food he wants as cheese.
This child is an absolute wonder.
